Directions

Get off at Praha Hlavni Nadrazi (the main station). If you get off at Praha Holesovice by mistake this is not a disaster (see directions below).

Please do NOT change all your money into Czech crowns as you will be paying for your room or apartment in the currency we agreed on your booking form.

You will need a single 20Kc ticket for the trams, which you can buy at one of the kiosks. Don't forget to validate your ticket in one of the yellow machines as soon as you get in. If you have luggage bigger than 25cm x 45cm x 70cm you have to buy a separate 10 Kc ticket for each piece.

It is extremely important to call the moment you arrive in the country so that we can be sure that there is someone to greet you when you arrive. If we don't hear from you we may assume that you are not coming. If you have a GSM phone please bring that and give us your number so we can contact you if necessary.

To call from a foreign mobile just add +420.

There are no phone boxes which take coins inside the station; however, there is one right next to the tram stop.

Leave the station by the main entrance: this looks out onto a small park. If you don't see the park please go back.

Turn right into the park and walk along the wide path which leads to the road. You will see the tram stop directly ahead of you: you need a tram number 9 going in the direction away from the motorway fly-over. The call-box is slightly to your right on the other side of the street. Please call the contact you have been given in your email. This is very important!

The tram winds round the town for about twelve minutes. Get off at Ujezd, which is the first stop after you cross the river. The tram-stops are announced through loudspeakers on the tram; some trams have a display which shows the next stop; and all tram stops have the name of the stop marked at the top of the tram-stop itself. It is very difficult to miss the stop.

Change to the 22 or 23, both of which stop at the same tram-stop. Take this second tram two stops to Malostranske Namesti. If you are hungry there is a good fruit shop just by the tram stop run by a very nice Chinese gentleman.

The tram will turn the corner to the right: get off at the second stop, which is Malostranske Namesti. Get out of the tram and you will see a carpark to your left: walk across this car-park and follow the street up the hill. Within a couple of minutes you will be in Nerudova. Go to number 7 (on the left) and press the doorbell marked "The Castle Steps".

If you arrive before 10am or after 10.30pm, or if you forgot to call from the airport, there might not be anyone to greet you. In this case carry on up the hill another 100m and you will find call-boxes which take coins. Please call them and they will come within a few minutes.

Please note: some people try to walk all the way from the station. It is farther than it seems on the map and it is easy to get lost. We don't recommend making this trip by foot if you have luggage. The trip on the tram is quite straightforward and very pleasant.

If your train doesn't stop at Hlavni Nadrazi you can get off at Praha Holesovice or Praha Smichov. In either case take tram 12. If you get off at Holesevice the tram will go in the direction to your right, while if you get off at Praha Smichov and come directly out of the main entrance you should take a tram going to the left. Look at the time-table by the tram stop to be sure and check that the tram goes to Malostranske Namesti. Directions from there are as above.

Getting picked up

If you like we can arrange for you to be picked up from the station: this costs £7/$14/€11 for up to four people. Somebody will be waiting for you with a sign with your name on it, and they will stay there even if your flight is delayed. Just let us know on the booking form and we will make all the arrangements.

However it isn't difficult to get into town using public transport.
